“I contacted Alan regarding a second-hand Yamaha twin installation on my Westerberg. As an ex-commercial operator I still wanted the reliability factor of the second engine for long runs and the capability to run at 40 knots plus on good days. Alan listened to what I wanted, sourced the 150hp four stroke engines and rebuilt them to an exceptional standard, including the installation of a counterrotating gearbox for the port engine. The quality of Alans work is apparent in the way he fitted up the finished engines and completed the associated throttle, steering, fuel and electrical work. This was then followed by extensive water testing to ensure everything was in mint running order. I have now completed over 200 hours since the initial re-fit and I could not be happier. As I live in a regional area, I have really appreciated Alan travelling up to complete the 100 hour servicing as required and checking in on how the boat is running. There have been no issues with the engines and the performance is sensational; running back from the shelf at 45 knots very comfortably”

In 2024 I purchased a new 150hp motor for my boat. After the 30hr service with the dealership, I experienced difficulties with the motor not starting. Contacting the dealership they advised they were backlogged, and I would have to wait over a month before they could inspect the motor. I contacted BigFive Marine and spoke with Alan. I was impressed with his prompt service as he was able to check the motor the next day. Through his thorough investigation he found malicious damage to the motor resulting in the motor head and gear box needing to be replaced. Being on a tight timeline due to an upcoming fishing trip, Alan and his team worked tirelessly to ensure parts were ordered and repairs carried out. A new motor head was installed, however the gearbox delivery was delayed. Alan was amazing by providing a reconditioned gearbox (whilst waiting for parts to arrive) so we could still go on the trip. Once the new gearbox arrived, they were back installing and testing ensuring the motor worked perfectly. Alan’s professionalism in liaising with the insurance company assessor was outstanding. Club Marine Boat Insurance assessed the damage and covered the claim fully, promptly and efficiently. The flexibility of BigFive Marine in providing a mobile and workshop service is outstanding. I was impressed with Alan’s expertise, dedication and excellent customer service.
